Recently, as I was reading through the Gospel of Matthew, this just struck me:
And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent around to all that region and brought to Him all who were sick and implored Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment. And as many as touched it were made well.
Matthew 14:34-36
Can you imagine how many hands touched the hem of His garment? I was just struck by the fact that, because of the multitudes touching that specific spot, it must have become quite dirty. Can you imagine, the spotless, blameless Lamb walking with a robe dirtied around its bottom edge? Soiled by the desperation, need, and the hunger of His creation, of His sheep? And Him allowing it. Welcoming it. Welcoming them, and healing them. How wonderful to imagine that our Saviour walks with a robe dirtied by desperation, that He is truly that lowly. No mediator, no prior washing of hands. He Himself was available for them. And for us.
Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
